Interviews for the position of Chief Justice on April 22, entered their second last day with legal scholar Prof Dr. Dr.Wekesa Moni taking the hot seat.

The double PhD holder who is currently serving as the Dean School of Law at Daystar University boasts 16 years of experience in the legal profession.

During the interview, the Prof was questioned on a number of issues affecting the Judiciary and how he intends to solve them if appointed Kenya’s Chief Justice.

According to Prof Moni, one of the major challenges facing the judiciary is the fact that its organs including the Judicial Service Commission are not properly known to the public.

Explaining how he would solve the issue, Prof Moni noted that he’ll use the services of influential Kenyans, specifically musicians to compose songs about the Judiciary.

Prof Moni noted that the songs will focus on the JSC and its functions, obedience of court orders, delayed judgments among other issues.

By doing so, he believes many Kenyans will get a better understanding of the Judiciary, its organs, and how they contribute to the development of the nation.

“The commission is not known to the people and has not communicated to the people effectively. I would bring onboard musicians to compose songs on Judiciary, delayed judgments, disobedience of court orders and in many languages,” he said.

Prof Moni is the ninth candidate to appear before the JSC for interviews for the position of Chief Justice.

The commission will conclude the CJ interviews tomorrow. Other candidates who’ve appeared before the panel include; Senior Counsels Philip Murgor and Fred Ngatia, Lady Justice Martha Koome, Justices David Marete, Said Chitembwe and William Ouko among others.
