Azimio la Umoja Coalition Principal Kalonzo Musyoka on Thursday, July 11, implored Kenyans to take it easy on former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who fell victim to a barrage of calls and messages after his phone number was leaked.
This was hours after his announcement that he would back President William Ruto in his call for dialogue with aggrieved Kenyans.
Kalonzo was addressing a Pan African Youth Convention where he narrated how Kenyans reportedly bombarded the Azimio leader’s phone with messages after his meeting with President William Ruto to expressed their disappointment in his decision.
The Wiper Party leader shared that Odinga had to change his phone number over what he termed as a form of cyberbullying, urging them to express kindness towards the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader.
“I spoke to my big brother Hon. Raila Odinga on my way here, people went to visit him yesterday. And when they visited Baba, he had to change his telephone number,” Kalonzo disclosed.
“Because the Gen Z put his number everywhere. Maybe it’s a measure of cyberbullying, please be kind to Baba. If they can do that to Raila Odinga, imagine who else in this country,” he added.
Despite the drastic measures by Kenyan youth towards Odinga, Kalonzo could not help but commend them for sparking a new age revolution, tackling issues that has posed a challenge for major political parties and civil organizations for a long time.
“We need to clap for Gen Zs, imagine they have taken over what the NCIC and political parties failed to do.
“I believe that the African youth can similarly emulate the Kenyan Gen Zs by claiming the rights enshrined in their respective constitutions,” Kalonzo stated.
Kalonzo also condemned the current administration for its use for excessive force on protesters, calling out President Ruto for allowing law enforcement to hinder Kenyans from exercising their constitutional right to picket in the recent demonstrations.
