In the competitive world of advertising, few individuals manage to carve out a path that leads to both creative success and financial prosperity.

Anthony Mwaura, the founder of Absolute Media Pictures Limited, is one such rare talent.

In a candid interview with the Business Daily, he reveals that his journey to success had an unconventional start.

Back in 2009, due to financial constraints, he had to drop out from the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication, where he was studying TV production.

During that period, he had the opportunity to capture the talents of emerging musicians such as Juliani, Jimmi Gait, A Star, Ekko Dydda, and others, who have now risen to become some of the most prominent figures in the music industry.

“I used to charge them Sh10,000 per song and I had five musicians I was dealing with. I could hire a camera since I had none and use my second hand laptop to edit the content in my house,’’ he recalls

However, he was undeterred by this setback and chose to leverage the production and editing skills he had acquired to forge his own path and make a living.

Here is his story as told by WoK.

The Birth of Washamba Unlimited and a Passion for Production

In 2010, faced with financial constraints, Anthony Mwaura established Washamba Unlimited, a home-based production studio.

With limited resources, Mwaura utilized his skills in production and editing to collaborate with aspiring musicians, charging a modest fee for his services.

Despite the challenges, his talent and dedication caught the attention of up-and-coming artists, laying the foundation for future success.

In 2011, Mwaura made a pivotal decision to venture into corporate advertising and rebranded his business as Absolute Media Pictures Limited.

This strategic move marked a significant turning point in his career and opened doors to a broader range of opportunities.

With a focus on producing high-quality content for the electronic media industry, Mwaura embarked on a new chapter with unwavering determination.

The Breakthrough

Absolute Media Pictures gained its first major breakthrough when Mwaura secured a substantial Ksh 2.1 Million contract with Kizza Besigye, a prominent Ugandan opposition leader, to create campaign materials for his presidential bid.

Despite the election outcome not favoring Besigye, the experience taught Mwaura invaluable lessons in resilience and determination.

Undeterred by setbacks, he turned adversity into motivation to achieve greater success.

Building Success

Under Mwaura’s visionary leadership, Absolute Media Pictures flourished, securing prestigious contracts with renowned companies and organizations.

Their commitment to delivering exceptional service and innovative creative solutions earned them partnerships with industry giants like Airtel, Kenya Commercial Bank, Coca Cola, and more.

Looking Ahead and Embracing Competition

As Absolute Media Pictures continues to thrive, Mwaura remained forward-thinking and ambitious.
