The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) arrested 26-year-old Seth Mwabe on August 30, 2025, in connection with a cybercrime operation that allegedly siphoned Ksh 11.4 million from a betting company.

The arrest is one of several high-profile cybercrime cases in Kenya in recent years, which have targeted corporations, government agencies, and individuals.

On August 30th, 2025, the bank fraud prevention unit of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) conducted a raid on the residence of Seth Mwabe.

The 26-year-old IT student was accused of organizing cybercrime operations that defrauded a popular betting company of millions of shillings.

Mwabe is an alumnus of Meru University, where he left during his second year of studying Information Technology (IT).

His LinkedIn profile identifies him as a ‘cybersecurity specialist’ and states he has worked as a cybersecurity expert for at least three companies.

Seth Mwabe’s Allegations and Investigation

According to the DCI, Mwabe posed as a cybersecurity engineer. His most recent heist is alleged to have involved hacking the payment system of a popular betting company, where he stole sh 11.4 million.

At first, the betting firm was not aware of what was going on. However, they soon realized that copious amounts of cash were inexplicably disappearing from their payment service provider.

Mr. Abraham Mugambi, DCI’s Central Investigating Officer, stated that the company reported the theft in July of this year.

“This year in July, a payment service provider reported losing Ksh 11.4 million through fraudulent means. Our investigations established that the fraudsters managed to breach the system’s security protocols and siphon the funds,” said Mr. Mugambi.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the culprit was none other than Seth Mwabe. Consequently, DCI officers swiftly tracked him and raided his two-bedroom apartment at Tatu City.

Inside, they found a fully equipped computer laboratory, complete with high-end computers, monitors, and other software used by hackers and cybersecurity professionals.

Upon confrontation, Mwabe defended himself by saying that he was not a hacker and instead works as a freelance cybersecurity consultant, an occupation he has been pursuing since 2017.

He added that he was testing a new software that he had developed, which unexpectedly siphoned funds from the betting company to his accounts.

“I wanted to return it, but I got busy, that’s when DCI came knocking. You can take the money and let me continue with my life,” Mwabe told investigators.

Recent history of cybercrime incidents in Kenya

Seth Mwabe joins an infamous list of high-profile Kenyan hackers who looted millions of shillings from financial institutions and individuals.

In 2017, police reported uncovering a sophisticated hacking syndicate led by Calvin Otieno Ogalo, a 35-year-old former police officer and IT expert. The operation targeted several high-profile companies and parastatals, including the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and a supermarket chain.

The hackers conducted a series of cyber attacks and installed malware into the computer systems of these companies, which allowed them to steal regular sums of money undetected.

They operated from Nairobi CBD, Roysambu Muthaiga, and Thika. By the time the police caught up with them in March 2017, they had stolen hundreds of millions of shillings.

In 2022, two students from Kenyatta University made headlines when they were arrested and charged as cybercriminals by the DCI.

The students who were aged 25 and 26 were part of a Nakuru-based syndicate that hacked people’s credit cards, used them to purchase bitcoins, and converted the bitcoins into Kenyan currency.

They would then use the money to entertain ladies, buy luxury property, and live lavishly.

More recently, three suspects were apprehended by DCI in May after hacking and siphoning ksh 3 million from a victim’s bank account. The suspects ambushed the victim by ramming his car on both sides as he drove to Pangani along Racecourse Road.

They stole his phone and used his SIM card to hack his bank accounts, and then proceeded to siphon the money and transfer it to numerous other bank accounts and SIM cards.

The Communication Authority of Kenya estimates that Kenya recorded an all-time high of 2.5 billion cybersecurity incidents in the first quarter of 2025, marking a staggering 207.1% rise from 2024.

Many young adults wonder how university students can make money while studying.

It is important for students in universities to start thinking about how to make money. Even without enough academic qualifications, university students can make money through the discovery and development of their talents.

They can lift every gift. They can hone useful soft skills. For instance, university students can make money through writing and public speaking.

University students can make money through mentorship and apprenticeship. That is, learning a certain skill under someone, and in the process make some money.

Student Financial Literacy: why learning student financial literacy matters

Remember, in 1 Timothy 6:10, Paul the Apostle told Timothy that “the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. So, he just cautioned him against the lure of lucre.

For money itself is not bad. Prosperity is good. But poverty is bad. Through it all, thinking about moolah is not evil. After all, we need money to live decently.

We need money to dress well. We need money to eat good food. No wonder, in Ecclesiastes 10:19b, it says, “And money answers everything.”

Unfortunately, our schools hardly teach us about the means of making money. In case you have read the heroic book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki, then you know the reason most students lack the soft skill of financial literacy.

Now, being that university students are young adults, the best thing they can do is to start thinking about creative and innovative ways of making money.

For life will keep on becoming tough. One of my favourite quotes about money and how it is made is by Robert H. Schuller, the putative author of Tough Times Never Last, But Tough People Do.

In that page-turner, I read the quote: “There is nothing like a money problem; it is always an idea problem, and a good idea attracts money.”

Side hustles for students: creative and innovative ways to earn

Recently, I was having a candid conversation with a certain comrade in Nairobi.

He told me that high school students are richer than university students. Just in jest. I laughed out loud about it. Then, when I thought about it, I saw some sense in it.

Most high school students are recipients of great treats from their parents. Parents do everything for them because they consider them children who are not yet adults.

When they are reporting to school at the tail-end of holidays, parents give them pocket money. When their pockets run dry, they do not cry, but try to call home, and parents send money through class teachers.

But for comrades in universities, the story is a bit different. It is a sad sob story. In universities, there is what they call kuinama, where comrades are hunched by hunger and harrowing varsity experiences.

When I take a mental flight back to those dreary days, it was sad indeed. I faced adversity in university.

When I travelled from village to college, I did not know that I was enrolling into what Napoleon Hill calls the University of Hard Knocks.

For as Ryan Holiday aptly puts it in The Obstacle is the Way, I was tried in the crucibles of adversity, and forged in the furnace of trial. When life placed me on the short end of the stick, I thought of traveling back to the lacustrine land, where I was born and brought up.

But then, I thought, what would I tell pious people who prayed for me when I left the lake for the mountain?

So, I sought solace and peace in the wise words of Martin Luther King, “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.”

Being a practising Christian, I found hope and help in Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called to his purpose.”

Use the head, hands, and heart — student entrepreneurship ideas

So, for all comrades, sometimes, life can be very hard. It can be bad. Things can be sad.

You can find yourself in the zone of doldrums. That is when you will have to awaken your creative and innovative genius. In case you refuse to think, then university problems will leave you more hunched over the ground.

You must train yourself to use the head (think deeply), hands (work hard), and heart (pursue your passion). Remember, when you are an adult in the university, you cannot manifest as a victim.

Instead, you must always walk head held high like a victor. As in my case, I was born outside of wedlock. Mom died when I was 7 years old. Now, the parents I had when I traveled to university were my grandparents, who were old like Ramogi Hills and helpless.

I, too, was hapless and hopeless, but being a believer, I thought about that timeless question God poses every time He intends to repair the despair of His children who are caught up on the verge of defeat: What is in your hands?

For Moses, it was the rod, which he used to divide the Red Sea when the Egyptians pursued them with rage. For Samson, son of Manoah, it was the jawbone, which he used to finish the Philistines.

For Apostle Paul of Tarsus, who inspires me a lot, it was the powerful pen. His drops of ink made people think deeply about Christianity. While he was preaching in chains, in those tough times, the pen helped him.

Meaning, when we are caught up in tough times, we can make wise use of our inborn talents, God-given gifts, and soft skills we have honed.

For Proverbs 22:29 puts it aptly, “Do you see a man skillful in his business? He shall stand before kings. He shall not stand before mean men.

Therefore, while in the university, one of the creative and innovative ways of making money is the wise use of talents, gifts, and skills God has given you as a student (how university students can make money while studying).

Then, you can also make wise use of your useful habits and hobbies. Likewise, you can make wise use of your useful routines and rituals to make more moolah.

In my case, when I was in the university, the burden of defraying fees, paying rent outside the university, and affording food weighed me down.

It was real kuinama, hunched by hunger and harrowing university experiences.

Earn money through writing and public speaking

But when I thought deeply, I found a way out. I had built the habit of reading avidly.

Researching and learning new stuff were my hobbies. Praying was a routine and ritual I was prone to. I had the gift of preaching. Writing was a skill I was honing with real zeal and trenchant zest.

Therefore, as a struggling university student, my creative and innovative ways of making money revolved around trusting God to use what He gave me to hue a stone of hope from the mountain of despair.

No wonder Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now to Him who can do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that is working in us.”

I gathered courage and went to meet the Vice Chancellor. Despite my incessant visits, the secretary did not allow it to happen.

But she did not know I had read about The Parable of the Persistent Widow in Luke 18. So, after ten failed attempts, one morning, at around 7:00 am, when I was from morning prayers in the chapel, I saw the Vice Chancellor sauntering to his office.

I followed him and requested whether I could book an appointment to meet him. Prof Paul Mungai Mbugua nodded to my heartfelt request. So, it is how I became a research assistant to the Professor of Medicine.

Every week, he assigned me a task to read and research in the discipline of Medicine. Whenever I submitted the assignment, he gave me some amount of money that went into my upkeep.

Luckily, one good day, the Professor of Medicine held my humble hands. We ambled at an academic angle to the library. We met the Senior Librarian. He instructed him to allot me an office within that edifice set aside for master’s and PhD candidates.

Part-time jobs for university students: tutoring, teaching, and research assistantships

So, every time I visited the library, I had a special room where I did my academic work. I also had the best desktop computers with sufficient internet supply.

So, it is where I sat to write and read avidly. When I racked my brain, creative and innovative ways of making money through writing started percolating in my mind. Of course, I made some money.

Then, I initiated some writing projects. I started writing my first book, titled From Obstacles to Miracles. Then, because I was training as a teacher of English and Literature, I read and started writing good guides of KCSE set texts.

I penned the guide for The River and The Source by Margaret Atieno Ogola, The Caucasian Chalk Circle by Bertolt Brecht, and Betrayal in the City by Francis Davies Imbuga.

Interestingly, the guidebooks opened for me wide doors to deliver some academic talks in the nearby schools. I received a meagre amount of money.

I also got part-time jobs to teach English and Literature at Kikuyu Day School and Rev. Musa Gitau Girls School. As a young teacher, I was able to earn some money to help me survive and thrive.

In the university Christian Union where I served for “two terms” as the Mission and Evangelism co-ordinator, I was the one who came up with the list who were to go do devotions at the assemblies in the nearby primary and secondary schools.

Being the one in charge, I assigned myself more sessions for desired to learn how to address students. In the process, Principals loved my preaching and assigned me more work.

They requested me to deliver career and academic talks. They requested me to train the student leaders. So, I made some money.

Student entrepreneurship ideas: building a consultancy and upskilling programmes

Moreover, I thought of starting an academic and career consultancy.

That was the birth of God’s Pen Consultancy, where we roll out Penman Programmes by focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and training.

Still, as the co-ordinator of Missions and Evangelism in the Christian Union, I spearheaded several missions to PCEA Churches in Central Kenya; that explains my connections with PCEA. When working with churches, we do not do business.

But after preaching or facilitating a seminar, they do not tell you, “Go with Jesus.” For everywhere a preacher goes, he goes with Jesus and depends on His aegis.

Therefore, an organised Church like PCEA supports preachers with what they call honorarium or love offering.

The Kenya Medical Training Colleges (KMTCs) offer a vast array of Diploma and Certificate courses in health-related fields. Currently, there are about 90 KMTCs across the country.

KMTC recently increased opportunities in Community Health Programmes, and introduced courses such as Diploma in Health Insurance (KMTC) to provide skilled workers for the Universal Health Care Programmes.

They also introduced the Diploma in Mortuary Science course to provide professionally-trained morticians in morgues.

Medical programmes in KMTCs are highly marketable, attracting umpteen applications in every intake for students compared to marketable medical courses in Kenya.

To enhance quality, most of the KMTC programmes are regulated by proficient professional bodies such as Kenya Nursing Council.

KMTC Admission Requirements and KCSE Cluster Subjects

Applicants should ensure that their cluster subjects meet the minimum requirements when applying to KMTC diploma courses and KMTC certificate courses.

For instance, the cluster subjects for health science course offered in KMTCs include: Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics, and English or Kiswahili.

Meaning, doing the three Sciences — Physics, Chemistry and Biology — gives a student an edge or advantage in career choices.

Some medical courses require foundational knowledge of the three Sciences.

Then, when I write that a course requires Mathematics or Physics, it does not mean that a student can fail and fall flat in Mathematics, but still qualify for a particular course due to the peerless performance in Physics.

Largely, Mathematics is compulsory in all courses, and there is no debate about that for KMTC qualifications.

Diploma Courses Offered at KMTC (List & Requirements)

Getting down to the brass tacks, KMTC diploma courses available in KMTCs include Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery, Diploma in Emergency Medical Technology, and Diploma in Health Counselling.

All of which require a mean grade of C (plain) in KCSE for applicants researching KMTC diploma courses C plain.

For Diploma in Health Records and Information Technology, applicants require C (plain) in English or Kiswahili and a C- (Minus) in Mathematics.

And at least a D+ (plus) in Biology for those searching Diploma in Health Records and Information Technology KMTC requirements.

Diploma in Kenya Registered Health Nursing also has a minimum entry grade of C (plain) in KCSE, and it requires a C (plain) in either English or Kiswahili and Biology.

Applicants must have at least a C- (minus) in Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics to meet KMTC nursing requirements.

Other Diploma programmes include: Diploma in Kenya Registered Nursing and Mid-wifery, Diploma in Kenya Registered Nursing (Mental Health and Psychiatry), Diploma in Medical Engineering, Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science, Diploma in Medical Social Work, and Diploma in Mortuary Science.

There are also Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics, Diploma in Occupational Therapy, Diploma in Optometry, Diploma in Orthopaedic Technology, Diploma in Orthopaedic and Trauma Medicine, Diploma in Pharmacy, Diploma in Physiotherapy, Diploma in Public Health, Diploma in Radiography and Imaging, and Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy.

On August 4, 2025, Boniface ‘Bonnie’ Kamau received a life-changing call from Sportpesa’s CEO, Mr. Ronald Karauri.

The gist of the call was that Kamau had won the Sportpesa Jackpot of sh 424,660,618 – the largest payout in the company’s history.

This was after correctly predicting the outcome of 17 different matches earlier in the month.

According to Perplexity AI, the probability of correctly predicting 17 football matches is approximately 1 in 131,072. Kamau won the jackpot after laying a sh 500 stake.

Sportpesa CEO Ronald Karauri confirmed that Kamau would receive the entire jackpot amount, following a government decision to remove the 20% tax previously imposed on such winnings.

Background and Future Plans

Before winning the jackpot, Kamau worked as a manager at Nuclear Investments, the OLKalou branch. His job involved ticketing, accounting, and banking for the transport company.

However, the father of 3 revealed that he has since decided to quit his job after winning the jackpot and has no intentions of going back.

“Job ni kama imeisha. Hio imeenda hivo. Hio ni kama imeenda,” he said during a celebratory ceremony at JW Marriot Hotel.

Despite his sudden stroke of fortune, Kamau is a seasoned gambler. In the ceremony, he revealed that he has been betting for the last 10 years, with his biggest win being sh 171 000.

However, from his interviews, Kamau revealed that he has no clear plans on what to do with the money.

Predictably, he said that he has received massive advice from numerous sources on how to spend the windfall.

However, the plan that seems to appeal to him best is his mother’s advice of taking a vacation and relaxing his mind before he decides what to do with the money.

He also plans to drill a borehole back in his rural home in Nakuru, where he said that the lack of water is a serious problem.

Scale of the prize money

Kamau’s jackpot payout of sh 424,660,618 is greater than the equivalent amount allocated to upgrade health care facilities in Nairobi.

It is also enough to do a number of crazy things.

For instance, he can choose to host 3 BurnaBoy concerts and have some money left over, given that the last time the artist was in Kenya, he was paid a performance fee of sh 128 million.

The jackpot amount can also buy 60 brand new Isuzu NQR 33-seater buses, whose average price is sh 7.07 million. It can also buy 79 Toyota Hiace 14-seater matatus, whose average current price is sh 5.39M.

Or, if Kamau is feeling particularly vain, the amount can sponsor a mega digital Billboard in any prime location within Nairobi for 23.6 years.

If he is feeling philanthropic, he has enough capital to build 539 CBC classrooms, with the average cost of building a government CBC classroom being sh 788 000.

Finally, at Sh 125k–239.8k a pop, the jackpot buys approximately 3,397–1,771 iPhone 15 Pro Max units—enough to gift the entire VIP section at two mega-concerts and his matatu crews.

Even in her wildest dreams, Jane Mango could never have envisioned becoming a tractor operator.

Her plan, when she graduated from KCA University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education, was to find a job and settle down as a respectable teacher of mathematics and business studies.

However, today, she is on a very different career path, earning a living by operating a successful tractor business in Mituri village, east Uyoma, Rarieda sub-county, Siaya county.

In a recent interview with The Standard, Jane disclosed that her decision to switch from a teaching career and venture into the tractor business was born out of severe job scarcity and the need to make a living.

“I had wanted to be an inspiration to many Gen Z graduates, especially to women who are currently struggling to get jobs and have since put pressure on the government to give them the jobs it promised them,” said Jane.

Additionally, there was a heavy demand for tractor drivers, especially during peak seasons when many of them would go missing.

Business Operations and Income

Ms. Mango currently operates two tractors, which she acquired from her father, Mr. Mango Ogwang. Her services, offered across the Uyuoma region, include tilling land, supplying water for local events, providing transportation, and moving heavy goods.

Over time, she has become an expert in operating, driving, and repairing the heavy machines, with her mantra being that what a man can do, a woman can do better.

In a week, she makes at least sh 20,000 during off-peak season and sh 40,000 during peak season. This income translates to about sh 80,000 – 120,000 in a month.

Comparing this income to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC)’s salary structure under the newly signed 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) reveals that what Jane currently makes is equivalent to what teachers under the job groups D3-D5 make.

This job group comprises administrative positions such as deputy headteachers, headteachers, and senior principals.

Before venturing into the tractor operator business, Jane had been employed to teach computer studies at a local NGO institution. However, she decided to quit because of challenges such as job insecurity and inadequate pay.

“I decided to quit and started driving a tractor, as I find peace in doing it. One might think that, being a lady, clients may be afraid of trusting her to do a good job of tilling their land with her tractors. However, this statement cannot be any further from the truth.

Challenges

According to Jane, running a tractor operator business comes with its own set of challenges. For starters, one needs to carefully manage their income because tractor maintenance can be quite expensive.

Another challenge is doubt from skeptical clients, who sometimes worry that she is too young and inexperienced to handle such heavy machinery.

There is also the challenge of getting a competent, consistent, and trustworthy driver. “I have two tractors and l can’t drive both of them at the same time, and there are times when both tractors are engaged by my customers, so hiring another driver has been a big headache,” she disclosed.

Another challenge is that some drivers do not submit all their earnings despite the fact that she pays them a monthly salary. Others are alcoholic degenerates who never arrive at work on time and often disappear once they are paid.

“You can’t rely entirely on them. This reduces productivity,” she said

Nevertheless, she is determined to grow the business, and her current plans include buying a third tractor and opening supermarket outlets at Ra-geng’ni and Madiany shopping centers.

She is also pursuing a master’s degree in project management at the University of Nairobi.

Her parting shot is for unemployed youths to think outside the box and consider venturing into business instead of waiting for formal employment.

Chat GPT has undoubtedly carved itself a solid reputation as the Swiss Army Knife AI model for day-to-day tasks, from creative writing, business analysis, coding, image generation, and other tasks.

With OpenAI’s recent release of ChatGPT 5, the chatbot is more intelligent than ever before.

However, while ChatGPT is the go-to chatbot for many, it is not the only AI model in town.

There are dozens of other prominent large language models (LLMs) similar to ChatGPT, some of which are faster, better, and cheaper.

In this article, WOK has compiled a list of 6 best ChatGPT alternatives for Kenyans:

Google Gemini

Gemini AI is a large language model developed by Google. It is a conversational chatbot that operates like ChatGPT but is integrated with Google search features. Gemini is effective for web searches and engaging conversations.

You can use it to summarize documents, compile deep research across hundreds of websites into one report, and create custom AI agents tailored for specific tasks.

One way that Gemini beats ChatGPT is in the realm of multimodal capabilities, where its image and video generation abilities are much stronger. Reviewers have also cited Gemini as being more accurate and detailed than ChatGPT.

The bottom line is that ChatGPT is better at tasks like writing and coding, but you may want to use Gemini for creative tasks like image and video generation.

Microsoft Copilot

Co-Pilot is a large language model that is integrated into Microsoft’s search engine, Bing. It has existed in previous versions such as Bing Chat, Microsoft Edge AI chat, Bing with Chat GPT, and its current version, Co-pilot.

Despite being a Microsoft product, this chatbot runs on OpenAI’s GPT 4.0. You can use Co-Pilot for writing tasks such as drafting emails, reports, essays, and speeches.

You can also use it for data analysis to interpret charts, explain trends, build frameworks, and simulate scenarios.

It also offers other features such as the creation of custom chatbots, the ability to generate and customize images, and access to plugins such as the Suno AI music generator.

One of its keynote features is Microsoft Copilot vision, which allows the chatbot to view what you are doing on your internet browser.

With this feature, you can ask the chatbot questions about your webpage, ask it to retrieve information, and generally provide an interactive browsing experience.

Claude Ai

Claude AI is an interactive chatbot that is highly useful for generating long-form text.

Countless reviews have found that Claude, which was developed by an AI company called Anthropic, generates writing that feels more intuitive than ChatGPT.

You can use Claude to brainstorm ideas, summarize documents, and complete creative tasks such as writing blogs and drafting reports.

Although Claude lacks image generation capabilities, it is particularly good at generating prompts that you can paste onto other image generation AI tools such as Midjourney.

It also excels at complex tasks, such as coding, outranking even Chat GPT in some areas. The Claude app also offers voice dictation, which allows users to use their voices to input queries.

DeepSeek Ai

DeepSeek is a Chinese-based AI company whose chatbot rivals conventional models like Google Gemini and ChatGPT. Currently, DeepSeek serves approximately 96.88 million monthly active users globally, most of whom are based in Asian countries.

The tool has been known to excel in tasks that require creativity, coding, and reasoning, performing even better than ChatGPT in some technical tasks. Its features include web browsing, a massive context window ideal for research and enterprise use, and an engaging web interface.

For the average user, the DeepSeek and Chat GPT chatbots are largely interchangeable, unless you really want to push the limits of each AI model.

You can use both to draft emails, write blogs, brainstorm, write code, provide customer support, and any other tasks you might think of.

Perplexity Ai

Although perplexity functions more as an AI search engine than a chatbot, it’s still an ideal alternative to ChatGPT, especially as a research tool.

Perplexity is an umbrella name for an AI model that combines the specific strengths and features of other AI models like Claude, GPT-4, Gemini, and Sonar.

Perplexity was created to be a research assistant, with its responses including relevant time data and source citations, which is perfect for fact-based research.

Like Chat GPT, Perplexity can summarize PDFs, research papers, books, and long articles. Its premium version allows users to upload images and video files, and Perplexity can accurately extract and analyze information from these files.

It is also useful if you’re searching for videos and images on any topic, with its results being more precise than those of Google or Microsoft Bing.

Grok Ai

Grok is an AI chatbot developed by Xai (which is owned by Elon Musk). Grok is accessible via the X (formerly Twitter) website and is also downloadable as an app.

Like Chat GPT, Grok is useful for real-time internet research, image generation, and conversations. It offers PhD-level intelligence across subjects like math, physics, and humanities.

Its latest model, Grok 4, is one of Chat GPT’s greatest rivals, being highly intelligent in completing complex tasks. Its integration with Xai’s Aurla and Flux models makes it useful for generating images and converting images to videos.

It is also useful for coding tasks, analyzing PDFs, and a deep research mode for in-depth results, which is available to pro users.

Grok’s standout feature is live access to trending data from X, making it ideal for summarizing current events, monitoring public sentiment, and surfacing viral topics instantly.

Conclusion

ChatGPT is powerful, but it’s not your only choice. If you’re looking for an alternative AI tool or are simply willing to try something new, there’s an AI tool here for you.

Try a few, compare the results, and find the one that best suits your needs.

Whatever your opinion of Kenyans might be, you have to agree that we passionately support our national teams.

Be it Harambee Stars, Kenya Rugby Teams (Simbas and Sevens/Shujaa), and our athletic teams, we always show up in large numbers to cheer and support our own.

Anyone with a contrary opinion needs only to take a look at the recent opening match of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament that saw Kenya thrashing DRC Congo 1-0.

In that match, Kenyans practically overrode Kasarani Stadium’s security barriers in a bid to enter the stadium and cheer their home team. Not even heavily armed security officers could keep them out!

One of the most visible ways fans show this support is by wearing the national football team’s jersey.

But with a history of changing suppliers and the presence of counterfeits, many have been left asking: Who is the official source for genuine Harambee Stars jerseys?

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF), which holds responsibility for the national team’s kits, has now provided a clear answer.

For the current CHAN 2024 tournament and the upcoming 2027 AFCON matches co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, FKF has approved East West Fashions as the official supplier of replica Harambee Stars jerseys.

These official fan replica jerseys are available in four variants: red for home matches, white for away matches, as well as alternative black and green versions.

Each jersey features the iconic Kenyan lion logo on the left side of the chest. A notable detail of the current kit is that it does not feature a major manufacturer’s logo, a departure from previous years.

Fans can purchase the jerseys through the store’s official website, eastwest.ke, or by visiting the East West Fashions physical shop, located at Sonalux House along Moi Avenue in Nairobi.

According to FKF President Hussein Mohammed, the jerseys are retailing at a subsidized price of Ksh 1,500, reduced from the previous price of Ksh 2,500. This promotional price is available for a limited time to mark the start of the CHAN 2024 tournament.

This move to a single, authorized supplier aims to clear up confusion that has persisted for years, during which fans have reported issues with counterfeit jerseys sold on various e-commerce platforms.

FKF is partly to blame for the confusion, especially with its constant change of jersey suppliers over the years. For instance, in 2017, the body had authorized Singapore-based Mafro Sports to supply the jerseys.

In 2019, they terminated the contract, this time awarding it to the French company Macron for the AFCON kits. At the time, the jerseys retailed for between sh 2500 – 3500.

Uhlsport supplied kits in 2021, and various other brands such as Joma, Kelme, and adidas have been involved over previous years.

Imagine having an employee who never sleeps, never tires, and is always there to handle all queries from your customers, no matter how complicated. This employee is available 24/7 and can speak in multiple languages.

Well, you can now stop imagining, because this concept is no longer a futuristic idea. It is exactly what AI chatbots are doing for businesses that have already integrated them into their systems.

International companies like Starbucks, Amazon, H&M, Vodafone, and PayPal are already using AI chatbots to improve customer service. Closer home, regional corporations like Safaricom, Telkom Kenya, and Nation Media are already reaping the benefits of AI chatbots.

In fact, chances are high that you might have already interacted with an AI chatbot, with statistics suggesting that 1.5 million people have engaged in at least one chatbot conversation within the last year.

What Are AI ChatBots?

AI chatbots are smart computer programs designed to hold real-time conversations with customers.

Chat GPT, Grok, and Claude are popular examples of AI chatbots. Other chatbots that have been customized exclusively for businesses include FreshChat, Emitrr, Tid, and Drift, among others.

This is how AI chatbots are revolutionizing customer service and increasing sales:

24/7 Customer Support

Most customers dislike the frustration of waiting for long hours to access products or services. In fact, statistics suggest that 82% of customers prefer engaging with businesses that provide instant feedback to their users.

AI chatbots provide timely, round-the-clock answers to customer queries, even at midnight or during holidays. With AI chatbots, businesses can offer support to individuals who need to access products outside regular business hours, such as international clients.

This round-the-clock availability improves business trust as well as customer satisfaction. It ensures that the business does not lose out on potential customers simply because no one was available to answer their queries.

Personalized experiences

Integrating AI chatbots with other business systems, such as CRM, enables them to access key information about your business, which they can then use to personalize customer experiences.

For instance, chatbots can tailor their messages to correspond to each phase of the customer’s journey.

For customers who are new to your business website, the chatbot can welcome them with messages such as: “Hi there! Looking for a certain product? I can help you explore our bestsellers.

For customers who are considering which product to buy, the chatbot can prompt a product comparison tool with a message such as “Would you like to compare our three most popular laptops based on battery life and performance?”

This level of personalization keeps customers engaged and improves retention rates.

Scalability

As a business grows, so does the number of its customers, and consequently, the number of queries the business receives.

Rather than hiring more staff to handle customer queries, businesses can use AI chatbots to handle thousands of conversations simultaneously without impacting quality.

Regardless of how many customers are reaching out at any given point, chatbots can quickly and consistently respond to their queries professionally across the board. This reduces service delays and operational costs for businesses.

Statistics suggest that 68% of customers value chatbots because they are convenient and respond more quickly than human staff.

Provide proactive customer service.

Businesses can use chatbots to anticipate customer needs or problems before they arise.

For instance, customers may ask how to use a feature of a certain product. Upon seeing the request, the chatbot will anticipate their need and recommend a tutorial or usage tip based on the customer’s purchase history.

E-Commerce companies may also use chatbots to welcome returning customers, remind them of products they had browsed earlier, and notify them about any products that are not in stock.

Chatbots are also smart enough to understand the appropriate level at which to hand over the conversation to a human sales representative to hasten the purchase.

Conclusion

AI chatbots are essential for businesses that seek to deliver fast, personalized customer experiences without hiring additional staff.

As industry experts suggest, AI chatbots can help businesses cut down on customer support costs by up to 30%.

However, businesses that adopt this technology should focus on improving their performance to ensure a smooth, human-friendly experience.

Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale is gearing up for the bullfighting season with a new bull called Mung’onya. Khalwale is known for his long-time passion for the sport, which has earned him the moniker ‘the bullfighter’.

The senator announced the news on Twitter, saying that the bull will be facing off with ‘Nyota’, its rival and the Idakho East champion.

Mung’onya is a relatively new entrant into the realm of bullfighting, given that this will be his first ‘baptism of fire’ in public.

The bull is a replacement for Khalwale’s former prizefighter bull called Inasio, which was the regional champion in the Ikolomani bullfighting contests until 2024.

Tragically, Inasio killed its longtime caretaker and trainer, Kizito Moi, who had worked with Khalwale for 24 years.

Following the incident, Senator Khalwale speared Inasio to death in accordance with Luhya cultural traditions, which dictate that when a fighting bull kills a person, it is subsequently killed and its body parts shared traditionally.

From Inasio, Khalwale introduced another bull called Lumumba in 2024, saying that ‘The Luhya community abhors a vacuum’. However, it seems that Lumumba has also found his replacement.

The new challenger

Based on the images that Khalwale posted on social media, Mung’oya appears to have a black and white color pattern, which is characteristic of breeds like the Holstein or a crossbreed involving Holstein genetics.

Holstein cattle originate from the Frisian region in northern Europe and are the dominant breed in industrial dairy farming globally.

Bullfighting is common among the Luhya community, especially among the Isukha and Idakho subtribes who live near the Kakamega East District bordering Nandi and Vihiga counties. However, the event is also common among the Wanga and Kabras subtribes, albeit at a more low-key level.

In a past interview with TUKO, Mr. Bonaventure Munanga – Shinyalu’s bullfighting chairman – revealed that bullfighting in the Luhya community is not only a sport but is rather a revered cultural event practiced in weddings and burial ceremonies.

The bull-fighting event begins with the selection of a young, well-fed, healthy bull, which is then named according to current events, such as art and politics. The bull’s horns are also sharpened to increase its chances of goring its opponent.

According to Mr. Munanga, the owner of the bull is prohibited from sharing a meal or sleeping with his wife for a fortnight before the bullfighting event. This is done to protect the bull from ‘evil spirits’ which may diminish its performance during the match.

The bulls are also prohibited from mating 3 weeks before the event in an effort to conserve their energy and focus. Mating might also expose them to sexually transmitted diseases, which may limit their performance during the match.

Contrary to popular belief, the bulls are not made to consume bhang or any stimulants. “If you give him bhang instead of fighting, he will start hitting the fans on the field or even run away and destroy things,” said Mr. Austin Munase, a bull owner.

Aside from the Luhya community in Kenya, bullfighting is popular in Portugal, France, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, India, Ethiopia, Sudan, Nigeria, China, and parts of Southeast Asia.

The rise of AI has led to the development of new tools that simplify the content creation process for individuals and businesses, allowing them to focus more on improving their products and services.

Social media marketers, bloggers, YouTubers, TikTokers, podcasters, and other content creators have more tools at their disposal than ever before.

As a brand, not using AI while your competitors are implementing the latest AI tools is akin to committing entrepreneurial suicide, and you’ll soon be out of business.

Don’t believe us? Then look at the statistics. Gartner reports that companies using AI report a 22.6% increase in productivity, a 15.8% increase in revenue, and a 15.2% reduction in expenses.

In this article, WOK has compiled a list of 5 AI tools that content creators can use to drive traffic and monetize their content:

Surfer SEO

If you’re a content strategist, then you’re probably aware of the importance of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

For the uninitiated, SEO entails ensuring that your content ranks at the top of search engines like Google, as well as algorithm-based social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.

Surfer SEO uses AI to assess various aspects of your content, such as its length, readability, and keyword density, to establish how high it will rank in search engines.

The tool also allows you to specify your niche and target audience, and then it highlights the top-ranking keywords. It also suggests a content outline that you can follow, as well as the best image density for your content.

Another useful feature of the tool is that you can use it on text editors such as WordPress, Google Docs, and others.

LALAL.AI

This tool is highly useful for individuals whose content is mostly audio-based, such as video editors, podcasters, TikTokers, or YouTubers. The tool is also useful for transcriptionists.

LALAL.AI is especially useful if you want to record a video, but you keep getting interrupted by loud background noises that tamper with the quality of your audio.

With LALAL.AI, you can record a video or audio file, upload it, and it will strip away the background noises without lowering the quality of your audio file.

Consider using this tool if you’re constantly getting frustrated by background noises interrupting your recordings.

Crayo Ai

If you’re looking to create faceless videos for your TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube channel, Crayo is definitely a tool you’ll want to try out.

The tool was developed by two YouTubers who went viral for creating a series of faceless videos on YouTube.

According to the developers, Crayo was created with the goal of simplifying the video creation process by helping you craft, generate, and produce short videos that go viral.

This tool is especially useful for marketers and businesses whose primary marketing strategy is using voiceovers and graphics to entertain /inform their target audiences.

Chat Fuel

Whatever your opinion of virtual AI assistants such as chatbots might be, they are here to stay. In fact, you may already be a step behind if you have not implemented chatbots on your website or business page.

One way to add a chatbot to your website or business page is to hire a specialist to design one for you. However, Chat Fuel simplifies this process by allowing you to custom-build your own chatbot to suit your customers and business needs.

Whether you need to replace an outdated FAQ page or inform your visitors about a new product, Chat Fuel provides a drag-and-drop interface that you can use to design a chatbot that suits your needs.

The tool is also an official partner of Meta (Formerly Facebook), which further boosts its credibility.

Browse AI

Competitor analysis is the lifeline of any successful digital marketer. It lets you research and identify what your competitors are doing, what products they are offering, their pricing strategies, as well as what customers are saying about their products.

Browse AI is an easy-to-install bot that can conduct in-depth competitor analysis for you, instantly compiling spreadsheets full of all the information that you need.

For instance, you might use it to check how your competitors are pricing their products on e-commerce sites like Jumia and Amazon.

Alternatively, you might tell Browse AI to spot all your competitors’ products and identify the ones wth the lowest customer ratings so that you can develop better products.

The tool has been implemented by over 2000 companies, including Amazon, HubSpot, and Salesforce.

Conclusion

AI tools are here to stay, and, like wine, they’ll keep getting better with time. As a content creator looking to drive traffic and monetize your content, you now have more resources at your disposal than ever before.

With these AI tools, even the smallest startup can compete neck to neck with established companies like Amazon, even with a limited budget.

Many of the above tools have freemium versions. So, give them a try today, and who knows, they may become your best marketing tools.
