With more than ten hits to his name, Brown Mauzo (real name Fredrick Kilonzo Mutinda) is a famous Kenyan secular musician based in Nairobi. The songwriter mainly sings in Swahili and has written songs for big names in the industry like Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee. Mauzo had signed her under his label but she left after her brand grew.  

His grasp of the Swahili language and manner of speaking had many thinking he hailed from Tanzania. He grew up in Mombasa and he is Kamba by tribe. 

He was an Ogopa DJs signee before he left to put up his own label.

Age

Mauzo was born on 31st December but he is yet to disclose his year of birth. He spent his childhood in the coastal region of Kenya. 

Career

From a very young age, he loved music and would often listen to renown musicians. Despite his interest in music, it was not until 2007 that he began to be known by a number of Kenyans. The inspiration of his music comes from his love, life experience and the events happening in the society.

Before 2007, he was part of a music band named Wawili Pekee. Later, he ventured out on his own and began releasing music singles. Subira was his first single, followed by Natamani.

Over the years, he has also released many other songs and even featured big names in the Kenyan music industry in some of his songs. 

Away from music, Brown is also a businessman who owns several clothes shops in Mombasa.

Relationship 

Brown Mauzo was in a relationship socialite and businesswoman Vera Sidika. At first, when the two announced the relationship people thought it was a publicity stunt to promote his music. They proved it was no stunt when Vera Sidika recently announced she was pregnant with Brown Mauzo baby. 

In a 2020 post, the artist shared a romantic note to the socialite:

“You walk into my life, unexpectedly and I found myself falling deeper and deeper in love with the person you are, happy birthday, fiancé.

Sometimes, when I think about you I cannot stop thinking about our future too. I was right about you all the time. Sweet, loving, caring, and responsible lady. All I ever dreamed of. So on your birthday, I want you to have the things that will make you happy. I will support you all the way. Have a wonderful birthday, honey. I love you ❤️😘 @queenveebosset

Children

He has a daughter with socialite Vera Sidika who was born on 20th October 2021 named Asia. His son is known as Ice Brown.

Break-Up with Vera

The artist took to social media to announce breaking up with Vera. He shared on IG,

“Dear friends and supporters, I wanted to take a moment to share some personal news. After much consideration, Vera Sidika and I have decided to part ways,
“Our journey together has been filled with unforgettable moments, but we have reached a point where it is best for both of us and our babies, Asia Brown and Ice Brown, to move forward separately” .
He went to add,
“As we embark on this new chapter, we kindly ask for your understanding and respect our privacy during this time.”

Controversy

Some of Mauzo’s hits have been shrouded in controversy.

The song Wote Wazuri which features Timmy Tdat attracted a lot controversy. Timmy Tdat was accused of inappropriately touching one of the video vixens. The scene was edited from the final copy and Brown threatened to pull down the video.

Timmy’s team claimed the clip was edited and sent out by Brown’s team to intimidate him. The vixen named  Quinter Nimo further claimed she was not paid for the job even after an agreement with Mauzo. The artist would later express his regret at working with Timmy Tdat. 

His hit song Dawa was also shrouded in controversy. Together with his fiancée, he was accused of featuring a teenager without parental consent.

However, they denied the accusations saying they had sought permission from the girl’s parents before doing the shoot. His fiancée was the one who choreographed the song Dawa.

In January 2019, some rumors claimed the singer had taken poison due to problems with his then girlfriend. He trashed these rumours saying that he had been indoors for a while and had not eaten, hence, why he fainted and was rushed to the hospital.

Neglecting girlfriend and his child

The musician is alleged to have sired a daughter with his ex-wife and left them to their own devices. According to a conversation between tea master Edgar Obare and the friend’s ex, Mauzo has two other wives making Vera Sidika wife number three. Here are the chats:
