Debate still rages on if indeed Dr Edward David Owuor of the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness church is a true or false prophet. What is however not in doubt is the spellbinding effect he has on his thousands of followers who equate him to a deity.

His followers believe the “Mighty Prophet of God” is the closest ‘thing’ to God and this was cemented when he reportedly brought to life Mama Rosa Rotirakori. According to Rosa’s husband Samson Rotirakori, it was a text message from ‘Prophet’ Owuor saying “It is well” that brought his wife from the land of the dead.

The couple told Nairobian tabloid of their miracle: “I was to be buried today, but I thank the Mighty Prophet Owuor for interceding for me. His prayers brought me back to life..”

Here is his story as told by WoK.

Age

He was born in 1966.

Family And Early Life

The prophet was born in 1966 in Goma Village in Bondo to Hezekiah and Margaret Ochieng. His father was a civil servant while his mother was a housewife. He is the second born in a family of six.

A devout Christian, his mother would always pray for the family. A young Owuor began serving at the Anglican Church.

Marriage

Owuor was married a Jewess of the Orthodox faith in Israel whose father was a Rabbi. They had a son together and her father’s wish was that they grow together in Judaism. However, when Owour left, he forfeited both his wife and son as the father refused to authorize their departure. He also said he had to choose between God and his wife, he chose the former.

While many doubt his prophetic anointing and call him a false prophet and ridicule his followers, his followers vehemently believe that he is indeed a proper of the most high.

Education background

Prophet Owuor is a one of the most-if not the most- learned man of the cloth in Kenya. The scientist turned prophet started his formative education at Wambasa Primary School in Siaya before he joined St Peter’s in Tororo Uganda.

He enrolled in Makerere University but the unrest in Uganda forced him to transfer to the University of Nairobi in 1988 where he was to graduate with a bachelor of Science degree.

Owuor said it’s at this point that he received Christ. Hunger for more knowledge prompted the prophet to enrol for masters in Genetics at the same university after completing his undergraduate studies. He was awarded two scholarships to Germany and Israel thanks to his high grades, he opted for the later.

At BenGurion University, Owuor changed his programme to biochemical genetics from plant genetics. He joined Haifa University in 1994 for a doctorate in biochemical genetics specializing in DNA sequencing. Owuor was to later join the University of Chicago Centre of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology in the US to study transduction.

Work

He lectured at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey. He also did research on tumour genesis and how it grows at the Cancer institute.

Preaching

He quit his job in 2003 to concentrate on preaching. He told Nairobian of how he would have visions daily of the Lord calling him to join the ministry from 2001. “The Lord, in a dream, called me three times but I did not understand. I had a number of visions but dismissed them as dreams,” ….”I kept running away and ignoring but you cannot run away from God..”

Prosperity Gospel

The ‘Mighty Prophet of God’ has no kind words for pastors and bishops who preach the gospel of prosperity a’la the Kiunas’ and Bishop Margaret Wanjiru. He openly criticised Wanjiru during one of his repentance revivals in Kakamega saying her interest was only““to milk money from the congregation”.

Owour while bashing his fellow clergymen said he does not collect offering during meetings and if he did so he would become a millionaire.

Miracles

He brought a woman to life and has other miracles he has performed during his repentance meetings. However, Wanjiru has termed Owuor miracles as fake: “Can someone explain to me how someone in crutches will walk just for the duration of Owuor’s rally and the next day they are back to using crutches? He just gives people energizers and claims he is performing miracles,” the former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate concluded his nemesis was a “one-day miracle man”.

Lavish lifestyle

Owuor came under sharp criticism from Bishop Margaret Wanjiru for condemning her lifestyle while he lived the life of the privileged rich. “Can he explain the fleet of expensive cars he drives around in? Can he explain the lavish lifestyle he is accustomed to? I would want to know which spiritual world he gets those things from so that I can also go and get them for myself,” the combative Wanjiru challenged her critic.

The prophet justified the Range Rover he is driving as a gift from one a woman who was touched by his work.

Presidential jets

The man of the collar landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in 2014 aboard Republic of Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso’s jet. Owuor mission in Congo Brazzavile saw the President of one of the most corrupt countries in the world give his life to Christ.

Prophet Owuor’s German Machine

Donning his trade mark dreadlocked beards and his overflowing white attire, Owour imbues mystery and power that befits his status as the Mightiest prophet of God. The man is driven in a Range Rover and a Mercedes S500 said to cost Ksh15 million and Ksh25 million respectively.

House in Mugwe Court, Gigiri

Owuor has a house in Runda Mumwe estate, gate 128 where one of his pastor attempted to commit suicide in 2015 after learning he had been dropped from the prophet’s Kisumu crusade.

Rent in this estate starts from Ksh220,000 for a 2 bedroom house and upto kes800,000 per month for the more luxurious houses. Owuor’s rent is around Ksh450,000 if he hasn’t bought the house.

Assassination In Israel And Ascending To Heaven After Three Days

In 2019, Prophet Owour claimed he would be murdered in Jerusalem and ascend straight to heaven after three days.

“The Lord spoke with me about the time when I’ll be murdered. I’ll be killed and lie down (denied burial) for three days, then He will take me up to heaven. And He (God) was very happy. What a tremendous time, how I will be assassinated in Jerusalem,” he said.
