Microsoft Company founder and philanthropist Bill Gates has arrived in Kenya ahead of a series public engagements and meetings.
On Tuesday, November 15, the philanthropist is set to tour Makueni County where he has scheduled a meeting with Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr.
After the meeting, Gates is expected to visit Makueni Mother and Child hospital and Kathonzweni Health Centre where he is set to meet health volunteers.
The billionaire businessman also has a scheduled meeting with two farmers championing for Climate Change and are farming through irrigation in Kathonzweni.
In Thursday, November 17, Gates will be at the University of Nairobi (UoN) to give a talk on Innovating for Food Security and Climate Change in Africa.
Gates last visited Kenya in 2016 where he appraised innovations by young Kenyans.
During his visit, the businessman hailed mobile money transfer service, M-PESA, saying its the best tool he has ever seen in helping people lift themselves out of poverty.
“As Melinda and I highlighted in this year’s annual letter, we believe that mobile banking is one of the best tools we’ve ever seen for helping people lift themselves out of poverty
“Today, more than two billion people have no access to financial services, severely limiting their ability to borrow, save, invest, and participate in the mainstream economy. But that is changing fast,” Gates noted.
As earlier highlighted on WoK, Gates is among world’s richest personalities have been secretly donating billions of shillings used to help needy people in Kenya.
The billionaire has made donations of up to billions of Kenya Shillings towards different initiatives in Kenya through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Earlier this month, the Foundation announced USD 2 million in new grants for HIV/AIDS Prevention efforts in Kenya.
The foundation has also invested in tools, technologies, and market infrastructure to help smallholder farmers in Kenya improve their productivity and income.
