Faces Behind Mega Mall Kakamega, Kisumu Mega Plaza Mall And Kitale Mega Centre Mall

The real estate industry in Kenya is a multi-million dollar sector that is majorly controlled by powerful billionaires and local/international investment vehicles. Over the few years, we have witnessed the rise of modern malls and high-rise buildings across the country. Mega Properties is one such company that has heavily invested in the sector owning Kakamega Mega Mall, Kisumu Mega City Mall, Kisumu Mega Plaza and Kitale Mega Center mall among many others.

Mega Properties History and Founders

Mega Properties Group is a real estate company owned by Shiloah Investments Limited, Grandways Venture and Katangi Developers Limited. The company was established in 1996 by Mr. Dipak Shah and Mr. Mitesh Shah who chose to combine their over 35 years’ experience in commercial real estate and asset management. The two had observed an opportunity to create the best facilities in hospitality, corporate retail and shopping experiences in Kisumu and its environs. Currently, the company is the leading developer of state of the art corporate and retail buildings in the western and Nyanza region. The company also manages over one million square feet of office, retail and mixed-use properties for third party clients. The company has its headquarters in Nairobi and a warehouse facility in Kisumu.

Mega Mall Kakamega

Sitting at the heart of Kakamega town along the Kakamega – Webuye road, opposite Muliro Gardens is the iconic Mega Mall Kakamega. The mall was established in 2011 and offers shopping experiences and corporate rental space. The 250,000 square feet mall has a total of six floors and receives up to 25,000 visitors on weekdays and over 30,000 visitors on weekends. It has unique features such as a fire alarm system, a standby backup generator, CCTV Surveillance, borehole facility and ample parking for up to 100 vehicles at a time. The mall is occupied by big brands such as Quickmatt Supermarket, Britam, Dr. Mattress and Airtel shops.

Mega Plaza Mall Kisumu

Mega Plaza mall was the company’s first prime commercial property located along Oginga Odinga street in Kisumu city. The building was opened in 1996 and sits on a 1.8 acre piece of land with a built up space of 250,000 square feet. The mall has unique features such as clean restrooms, ample parking, a standby backup generator, CCTV Surveillance and tight security. The mall receives approximately 25,000 visitors on weekdays and up to 40,000 visitors on weekends.

Mega City mall Kisumu

Located just 5 kilometers from Kisumu Central Business District (CBD) is the famous Mega City mall. The mall was established in 2005 and is home to showrooms, education campuses, retail shops, hotels, recreational facilities and supermarkets. Sitting on a 15 acre piece of land the mall stretches up to 600,000 square feet.

Naivas Kisumu

The building is located along Kenyatta Street and was home to the first Naivas Supermarket in Kisumu County. The total built up area of the building is 80,000 square feet.

Mega Center Mall Kitale

Mega Centre Mall is located along Makasembo road in Kitale town. Established in 2014, the building is an ultra-modern 4 story shopping complex for retail and corporate office rental space. It covers 350,000 square feet and receives up to 15,000 visitors on weekdays and 20,000 on weekends. It has ample parking that can accommodate up to 350 vehicles, a fire alarm system, 24 hour CCTV Surveillance and a standby backup generator.

Other buildings owned by the company include Godown warehouse facility located along Obote road in Kisumu city, VIC Hotel located along the junction of Kisumu-Kakamega-Nairobi road and Reliance Center building located in the affluent neighbourhoods of Westlands Nairobi.
