Just like the close of last year and the start of 2024, Daddy Owen was the most talked, if not bashed, celebrity in late 2020 when his marriage to Farida Wambui hit the rocks.

Meeting Farida Wambui
Daddy Owen, real name Owen Mwatia, met his ex-wife in 2012 at Java House. Four years later, the couple tied the knot in a colorful wedding held at the Kenya Assemblies of God.
“I knew she was my wife from that moment I set my eyes on her. Instantly, I felt that she was the bone of my bones and the flesh of my flesh,” Daddy Owen told a local daily.
Farida on her part kept a low profile only hitting the headlines when reports emerged that she was dumping her husband for another man.
“I am a very private person, and I like it that way, Owen is the celebrity, so I prefer staying behind the scenes, supporting him all the way and letting him shine,” she said.

Social media users went on overdrive claiming that Farida Wambui was having an affair with a Gilgil based tycoon. Daddy Owen was diplomatic at his obviously crumbling marriage while his wife remained mum only communicating through her lawyers.
“When the story came out, I was like…oh! I wouldn’t be the person to confirm it after all. But the fact is that whether I talk about it or not, the truth will eventually come out”, he told the Standard.
“I wouldn’t be the one to come out and tarnish her name and if I wanted to discuss our family issues, I would have done that a long time ago. The truth is out there. It’s hard to fight it. I wish her all the best,” he added.
He went on to confess that the relationship was so strained that he would lock himself in the house and cry for hours.
“We have been discussing our issues as a couple and consulting when things don’t go right. We haven’t been agreeing on everything and that is human. However, when one wrong leads to another, you really have to get concerned and start thinking hard. When it came to that, I fell into depression and could lock myself in the house and cry, asking God why this was going on.
He went so low that he even stopped writing sings,
“I stopped writing and releasing songs, as my creativity wasn’t working. I could not pray, as I felt weak inside. I contemplated doing everything wrong, even death. Nothing in life makes sense. The worst bit is that everyone out there thinks you have it all put together and life is progressive,” he continued.

Through her lawyers, Amadi and Associates, Wambui demanded her images be removed from Daddy Owen pages.
“Immediately expunge the names of our client, images and those of the minors whatsoever in all your social media platforms as well as your agents and proxies,” the letter read in part.
“Immediately you return all the original academic documents belonging to our clients,” it further stated.

Rumors are rife that Daddy Owen is in a relationship with Charlene Ruto. These rumors gained traction after the president’s daughter visited the gospel artist’s mother in Kakamega.
