State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed celebrated the National Tree Planting Campaign with his childhood friends and residents of Eastleigh.

Mohamed was also joined by Nairobi County’s Green Army during the campaign.

“With childhood friends, residents and the Green Army at the P.C.E.A Eastleigh community centre grounds, in Eastleigh Airbase, doing our part in supporting the National Tree Growing Campaign led by President William Ruto,” Hussein said.

This year’s event is the second National Tree Growing Day

The first one was held on November 13, 2023.

According to Hussein, the initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to address the worsening climate crisis.

This has been characterized by cyclic extreme weather events, including droughts and floods.

The day is also aimed at restoring Kenya’s degraded ecosystems by planting 15 billion trees within a decade.

The government hopes to increase the country’s tree cover from the current 12.3% to 30% by the year 2032.
