Charles Njagua Kanyi, popularly known as Jaguar, has become a household name for what some have termed as ‘xenophobic’ remarks aimed at foreigners doing business in Kenya. The Starehe MP gave Interior Security Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi 24 hours to round up the foreigners and send them to their respective countries or he would do that-and give them a beating to boot. To quote the legislator: “If they will not have gone back to their countries, as your MP, we will get into their shops and remove them, beat them then drag them to the airport”. His remarks got Tanzanian politicians so miffed that they threatened to do the same to Kenyans hustling in their country. The ‘one centimeter’ hitmaker had just stirred the hornet’s nest. So, who is Jaguar?

Brief Bio
Born in a family of three, Jaguar was orphaned when he was only eleven years old. The artist had to fend for himself by doing menial jobs to put food in his mouth. He worked as a tout in the chaotic public service vehicles popularly known as matatus and that’s how he was able to raise money to pay his school fees. In 2004, the artist released his debut single “Utaweza Kweli” under the now defunct Mandugu Digitali record label. A year later, Jaguar changed studios and released a string of singles among them “Kigeugeu”. After having a successful stint at Ogopa Deejays, the singer joined Main Switch Studios.

Joining Politics
Celebrities in Kenya have no luck when it comes to politics and it came as a surprise when Jaguar won the Starehe Parliamentary seat. He nearly lost the race after under hand dealings secured the coveted Jubilee party ticket to his archrival Maina Kamanda in the run-up to the 2017 general elections. Jaguar could not contain his emotions and cried infront of President Uhuru Kenyatta as he pleaded with him to intervene. Uhuru came through and Jaguar went on to beat his rivals Steve Mbogo and Boniface Mwangi.

Controversy
He was accused of causing the death of two people through dangerous driving. The Kigeugeu hitmaker was slapped with a soft fine of kes20,000 by the courts sparking outrage on social media platforms.

Properties He Owns
At one time touted as the richest artist in Kenya before Akothee came into the picture, Jaguar is truly living the life of the rich and famous. He owns multi-million houses in Nairobi and his rural home.
