CNN journalist Larry Madowo has thrown his support on Generation Z after their selfless protest against the Finance Bill.
Taking to his social media platforms Madowo praised Generation Z for fearlessly fighting for their freedom online and offline.
The journalist said he was impressed by their courage and conviction which he said was inspiring.
‘I stand fearless Kenyan Gen Z baddies fighting for their freedoms online and offline. Your courage and conviction are inspiring. It’s giving revolution. We are led.” Larry Madowo added.
On Tuesday, June 18 the Nairobi CBD saw running battles and tear gas as protesters opposing the Finance Bill faced off with police.
Police also used water cannons to stop the protesters from getting into Parliament.
Several protesters were arrested including human rights activists.
Some of the protesters marching through Nairobi called President William Ruto to resign, shouting, “Ruto must go! Ruto must go!”
The government later announced it had scrapped some proposed taxes in the controversial 2024 finance bill, including a 16% levy on bread, after a public outcry.
The announcement was made by MPs aligned to the government.
Other proposed taxes that have been axed include ones on cooking oil, mobile money services and on motor vehicles, which critics said would have also hit the insurance industry.
The MPs also announced a reversal on a proposed eco tax that targeted products seen as having a negative impact on the environment, such as packaging, plastics and tyres.
