Women are rising above societal norms to take up positions and jobs erstwhile dominated by men. Lindah Jelegat Kiyeng is one such woman who has taken up the public relations (PR) and media industry by storm. According to a story carried on Tuko, the entrepreneur founded her thriving multimillion public relations company with only Ksh10,000 capital.

Here is her story as told by WoK.

Background

Lindah Jelegat Kiyeng was born in 1992 to David Kiyeng and mother Rossy Jebet Keitany. The first born in a family of three attended St Nicholas Primary School Nairobi before joining Kapropita Girls Secondary school. After her O-levels, she joined Strathmore University to pursue a Degree in Information Technology before realizing that she did not have a passion in the field. She transferred to St Paul’s University where she pursued communications.

“I felt that was not me. I decided to major in Media and PR. I got an internship as a radio presenter at a Christian channel. This is where the opportunities to explore the media industry began,” she told Tuko.

She worked at a PR company where gained invaluable insights in the trade and decided to establish her own company.

Establishing a PR firm

Lindah Kiyeng is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lindah Kiyeng Communications headquartered at Transnational Plaza in Nairobi. The firm is involved in providing both media and public relations services for celebrities and corporates. The services include branding, press release distribution for companies, social media management and press conferences. She founded the company with only a Ksh10,000 capital while in campus.

“I started the business one month before graduating. I was 25 then, full of the wildest dreams to achieve. I used my savings, my starting capital was Ksh 10, 000,” she explained.

Success

Since its inception in 2017, Lindah Kiyeng Communications has served over 100 clients including billionaire Catherine Nyongesa, Director of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Nelson Ndirangu, UNCTAD youth and Ambassador Julius Bitok among others. The company has expanded its operations across the East African countries with clients from Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, South Sudan and Congo.

“I see myself running the biggest Public Relations Company in Africa in the next few years. We employ 15 people directly and 80 indirectly. I am grateful to my senior employees Shadrack Nyakoe and Amos Njau who run the activities around here. Our profit margin per client is Ksh 100,000 to Ksh 450,000 this is the amount we make per client,” she told the publication.
