Meshack Ochieng: Kenyan Bodybuilder Wins Ksh600k in US Competition

US-based Kenyan star Meshack Ochieng’ has emerged winner in the Natural Atlas bodybuilding competition held at the Stafford Convention Center in Houston, Texas.

He beat five others to emerge the victor in the competition presented by the Global Bodybuilding Organization.

Ochieng’ walked away with $5,000 (Ksh613,200) while the second and third position bagged themselves $3,000 (Ksh 367,920) and $1,000 (Ksh 122,640) respectively.

In his acceptance speech, Ochieng’ thanked his sponsors who made it possible for him to win the bodybuilding competition.

“Being fit is all, and I thank God otherwise I would have been a chicken farmer… but I truly work hard; I don’t have a coach, I’m my own coach

“However, with the help of my sponsors, I’m able to get quality of what you see here,” he said in a video on Andrew Kibe YouTube channel.

Elsewhere, on October 11 this year, Ochieng’ won the America Bodybuilding Championship title in in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The 39-year-old walked away with KSh 6 million among other prizes.

“To win this iconic event is beyond my wildest dreams. This is the biggest major breakthrough for me since I landed here in the United States in 2012,” said Ochieng.

He noted that he had won almost all the major natural bodybuilding titles both in Kenya, Africa and USA.

“It was time to go for that iconic one title that has the real bodybuilding history dating back to 1939,” said Ochieng.

Steve Reeves, Bill Park, Casey Viator, Boyer Coe and Tom Platz are some of the natural bodybuilding greats, who won the title in the past.

Ochieng’ hails from Homa Bay County, but was brought up in Mumias in Kakamega County.
