Real Name

Her real name is Catherine Jepkemboi. The moniker ‘Minicheps’ is derived from the Swahili phrase ‘mimi ni cheps’ as she previously revealed.

Minicheps is currently 26 years old.

Family

Jepkemboi was born and raised in Kapsabet, Nandi county. Her husband’s name is Meshack Korir. He is an animator and the one who assists her in taking and editing the viral photos. They live in Racecourse, in the outskirts of Eldoret town.

The couple is blessed with 2 sons, one is currently 2 and a half years old while the last born is currently  one year old. Jepkemboi says she doesn’t fancy the idea of including her children in her photography works lest they get trolled.

“I am afraid of posting my kids on social media because they can get bullied. I will have to wait until they are adults for them to make a choice,” she said in a past interview.

Education

Jepkemboi didn’t advance her education past primary level due to the fact that her parents couldn’t afford secondary school education fees.

After her education dreams were shattered, she got employed as a househelp in various towns including Embu, Ruiru and Nairobi.

Later, Minicheps settled in Eldoret and began selling samosas hence earning her the street tag ‘mama samosa’ until February 2021 when her edited photos took the internet by storm.

Miniature Photography Career

In 2019, Minicheps began her career in photography by proposing to her husband about taking photos and posting them online. In affirmation, Korir (the husband) coined the idea of creatively posting miniature photos and the duo began the journey using a borrowed camera.

As expected, the photos didn’t make a breakthrough on various social platforms. In fact, various Facebook group administrators declined to approve her posts.

It was her undying spirit of determination and the few loyal fans and friends who kept her moving. But it was on valentines day in 2021 that her career got an unprecedented meteoric rise after her photos went viral and earned her thousands of adoring fans.

“We just posted photos as usual and went to bed. In the morning, I was still asleep when I received a call from a friend who broke the news that I was trending online,” Minicheps told Chatspot.

Through various interviews, Minicheps revealed that the photo editing software she uses is a secret she would never disclose. Currently, she has earned numerous advertisement gigs from reputable companies including Multichoice; an entertainment firm operating under DSTV and GoTV.
