Allan Namisi is an actor popularly known for his role on drama series Inspekta Mwala where he plays, Constable Muliro.

He is also a media personality having worked with Radio Taifa, Radio Citizen and QFM as a presenter and sports journalist.

Here is his story as told by WoK.

Allan Namisi was born and bred in Mukoywet in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.

He moved to Eldoret for his primary school education and later enrolled at St Joseph’s High School where he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

After completion of his secondary school education, his parents convinced him to join the police service but he was not for it.

Namisi also mentioned that his parents wanted him to be a teacher.

“After they failed to convince me, they let me be and I’d be the one taking care of livestock at home and doing other chores,” he said.

All along, he noted that he wanted to pursue journalism, a move inspired by his love for football commentary.

However, his performance in high school could not let him pursue his dream career.

“I went to Webuye where my brother lives and ran a bakery. Although I was not interested in it as much, I learnt how to bake cakes and other pastries,” he said.

Namisi then joined hands with three of his friends and came up with an organization dubbed, Choice Outreach, under the Anglican Church of Kenya.

Under the group, they would participate in activities such as drama and performed to the national level, marking Namisi’s first time ever to travel to Nairobi.

During the drama competitions at the national level, they emerged the second runners up.

“We couldn’t believe. After the competition key industry players started looking for us, and we did interviews with BBC and Network Africa

“This was out first time doing interviews and getting interviewed by a big media company such as BBC meant a lot for us,” Namisi said.

After the interview, he bumped into legendary actress Mama Kayai who invited him to KBC auditions a week later.

“I did an audition and I was given a role after which we rehearsed a play and we shot my first ever episode on TV,” he said.

Namisi later interacted with radio presenter Jeff Mwangemi who taught him the basics of radio, and it was not long before he landed a role on Radio Taifa.

He worked as an actor for Vitimbi and a radio presenter at Radio Taifa.

Namisi left KBC when Royal Media Services (RMS) had opened Radio Citizen and they were scouting for media personalities.

“I joined Radio Citizen as a presenter although I was also working as an actor at the National Theater and KBC Corporation,” he explained.

Namisi explained that the idea behind Inspekta Mwala comedy show came up while he was working at Radio Citizen.

He was part of the initial cast of the show alongside actor and presenter Davis Mwambili and Mohamed Ratib, popularly known as Munai Generali.

“Initially, the show was supposed to be called Kona Mbaya but after consultations with Wachura Waruru, he suggested that we call it Inspekta Mwala and it made sense to us,” he explained.

Namisi ended his contract with KBC and joined Royal Media Services.

In 2008, he left Radio Citizen to work with Nation Media Group’s QFM although he retained his acting job at Royal Media Services.

He also presented sports news at QFM.

In September 2019, Namisi disclosed that he lost his radio job at Radio Citizen for being an alcoholic and underperforming.

In an interview with Mpasho, the actor was hoping to land another job following the firing.

“I lost my job as a sports presenter on Radio Citizen’s Viwanjani Michezo na Burudani show because of being an alcoholic. My performance at work wasn’t good and my family also fell apart,” he said.

He said he was deeply affected after he was fired and regretted having lost the precious chance in his life.

“My wife and I are trying to work things out and I’m happy the relationship has improved after rehab. But I regret my past and keep asking myself why am I alone, why did I do this’? He added.
