New Police Officers And Prison Warders House Allowances

The change of policy announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta on 13 Sept 2018 that will see junior officers rent their own houses was a welcome move in some quarters and spelled financial ruin to others. Until now, only officers above the rank of inspector earn house allowances. The move to abolish the mandatory free housing for 70,000 junior officers will save the government upto kes3billion. Police and prison officers have until the end of this month to vacate the leased houses and seek alternative housing as tenants. This will deal a big blow to landlords who made millions leasing houses to police officers. Here is a breakdown of police officers and prison warders house allowances:

Constables
Plans to pay constables assigned in Nairobi kes18,124 and kes13,124 for those working in Mombasa, Nakuru, Meru and Uasin Gishu kes13,124 were shelved as it went against Government policy that does not allow allowances to exceed or to be at par with an employee’s salary.
