Nick Ndeda is a household name in Kenya’s media industry. He is a radio show host, presenter, actor, screenplay writer and producer.
From his day hosting the a show on Homeboyz Radio to his days at Kiss FM, and subsequently his show on KTN, Ndeda has over the years commanded a massive audience owing to his talent, and empathic connection to his followers.
Background
Ndeda was born on December 5, 1985 in a family of three, all boys. He is the youngest of the three brothers.
In a 2019 interview with blogger the Kenyan Nomad, he revealed that his eldest brother Jeremy was the brightest, academically whereas Innocent was a tech wizz.
“Jeremy was a dope rapper and writer – he went on to become a really cool radio presenter till the day he died; Innocent can draw, paint, and rap; and I loved acting and generally performing in front of an audience,” he narrated.
Their parents raised them well, urging and supporting each of them to follow their dreams.
Education
According to his LinkedIn profile, Ndeda attended the United States International University and graduated with a degree in journalism.
Career
He began his radio career at Homeboyz Radio in 2007 as a stand-in breakfast show host and later hosted a youth show. He worked at the station for three years and departed in 2010.
He joined Royal Media Services (RMS) owned Hot 95 in 2010 at the age of 25. He became the youngest breakfast show host in the country at the time. He was also a Deputy Programmes Controller.
Towards the end of 2011, he took a hiatus from radio to do some acting out of the country. He returned in later 2012 and joined X FM hosting the breakfast show.
He worked with X FM until its closure in early 2019. He went on to Join Radio Africa as a show host on Kiss 100 FM. Ndeda left Radio Africa in February 2021.
Movies
On his acting, Ndeda has featured in over 50 screenplays. He featured as supporting cast on South African TV series ‘Jacob’s Cross’ (M Net) in 2012 and also in Maisha Magic’s ‘Selina’. In 2010 he was the lead character in local TV series, ‘Higher Learning’ (NTV).
He was also the lead character in the MTV series ‘Shuga’ in 2012, and most recently, played the lead role in the award-winning movie ’18 Hours’.
Awards
Ndeda won the Best TV Host for The Great Kenyan Bake Off which he hosts on KTN during the Kalasha Awards 2020.
Other awards include Playwright of the Year (2020), Theater Jury Award Recipient (2018), Best Radio Host (2014 and 2019).
18 Hours won 3 awards in the 2018 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in Nigeria: “Best Movie in Africa”, “Best movie East Africa” & “Best editing”.
Marriage
The award-winning presenter was married to Muthoni Gitau for 7 years. Before going their separate ways, the two had chosen to live a childfree life. Infact, Ndeda underwent a vasectomy procedure because he was not interested in having kids.
He said is decision was not informed by his ex-wife. His tweet read:
“One final thing on this matter. I did not get a vasectomy for her. I did that for me because I also do not want kids. Any other questions, not up for debate or discussion.”
