Noor Gabow: The No-nonsense Officer Hailed For Bringing Order At Bomas

Noor Gabow has been lauded for the role he played in restoring peace and order at the Bomas of Kenya on Monday, 16th August 2022. Tensions were high as a section of Azimio leaders attempted to block the IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati from naming the president elect. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police in charge of Administration Police, stepped in and ensured the process went on uninterrupted saving the country from possible violence. 

Here is what WoK has gathered about this gallant senior police officer. 

Education 

Noor Gabow has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology and Penology and a Master of Governance, Peace and Security Studies. He graduated from International Academy Bramsh of the National Police Improvement in the United Kingdom.

Career 

Gabow is the current deputy inspector general- Administrative police service. He took over from Samuel Arachi and became the first Kenya Police Service officer to head AP. 

His functions in this role include: 

  • Ensure the efficient and effective administration and operation of the Administration Police Service 
  • Evaluate, manage and monitor the Administration Police Service
  • Issue general, special, routine and standing orders in respect of the Administration Police Service
  •  Co-operate and engage in joint security operations with the Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Kenya Police Service, government departments, or other security agencies to ensure the safety and security of the public 
  • Provide strategic guidance and direction for the Administration Police Service

Prior to serving in this role, Gabow worked as the commandant of the Kenya Police College. He first joined the police service more than 30 years ago as a cadet and rose through the ranks to become the Assistant Inspector General.

Its during his tenure at Parklands Police Station that routine weekend robberies at the Kenya Commercial Bank, Sarit Center came to a stop. He then became deputy OCPD at Gigiri then OCPD. 

He has had stints at the United Nations mission at Sierra Leone and Bosnia. This was followed by a stint in New York as the head of the Africa desk.

Upon his return to Kenya, he served at Vigilance House in the planning department before his role as the commandant at Kinganjo’s Kenya Police College.
