Victoria Rubadiri Joins CNN Days After Quiting Citizen TV

Former Citizen TV news anchor Victoria Rubadiri has officially joined CNN.

Rubadiri will start in a new role on CNN’s long-running multiplatform series Connecting Africa and as part of the network’s newsgathering operation in Nairobi.

“As the series enters its fifth year on CNN International, Rubadiri will join the team telling the stories of emerging and expanding businesses across Africa and exploring the impacts of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement,” CNN said in a statement.

Rubadiri said she was excited to work for CNN and the African series.

“I’m extremely excited for the opportunity to work at CNN and to bring my experience and passion to its global audience. Connecting Africa champions the people, projects and companies revolutionising African business and I’m looking forward to working alongside Eleni and the team to get out on the ground and tell these stories,” she said.

Larry Madowo who worked with Victoria at NTV congratulated and welcomed her to CNN.

“Congrats and welcome to CNN, partner,” Larry posted.

Victoria Rubadiri left Citizen TV after six years at the Royal Media-owned television station.

Olive Burrows from NTV will replace her as the new weekend news anchor.

Rubadiri hosted Citizen Weekend on Saturdays and Sunday Live with Jeff Koingange on Sundays.

She won the BBC World News Komla Dumor Award in 2020.

Victoria Rubadiri graduated with a bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism at Temple University in Philadelphia in 2009.

She was born on January 28 1987 in Nairobi and raised by a Malawian father and a Kenyan mother.

Victoria’s grandfather James David Rubadiri was the vice Chancellor of Malawi University.

James was a Malawian poet praised for his memorable literary works among them Poems from East Africa, No Bride Price, come to Tea and An African Thunderstorm.
