Musician Daudi Mustapha also known as Colonel Mustapha has spoken out following claims that he works in a construction site.

In a video that went viral and subsequently sparking mixed reactions, the musician was spotted working in a construction site at an undisclosed location.

In an interview with Mzazi Willy M-Tuva, the musician confirmed that he is currently working at a construction site after life became unbearable.

He has been doing the job for close to one year now.

Mustapha says he turned to the job after friends and people who were close to him did not understand his situation.

“The good things is, at least I’m doing something for myself and I’m not really engaging in illegal stuff to make ends meet. This is better than engaging in criminal activities,” he said.

In a separate interview with Milele FM, he said his mother is ill and he was doing menial jobs to raise money for her medication.

“My mother is ailing from cancer. That’s the contributing factor; it’s costly and I have to go out of my way to be able to help her,” Mustapha added.

Mustapha is popularly known for his hit-song, Monalisa, featuring Deux Vultures.

He has also released hit songs which include Lenga Stress, Maloko, Hey Baby, Mtaani Dot Com and Meaning of Love.

He is also a former cast of Nairobi Diaries, a reality show.

In July 2022, The Star reported that Mustapha was depressed after leaving the show.

Mustapha said things have been tough, which forced him to disappear a little from social media.

“It’s been five years since I released music. Now I am back,” he said. “I had depression at some point, like two or three years after I left ‘Nairobi Diaries’ and things went bad,” he said.

At the time, he also addressed his relationship with rapper Noti Flow, terming it chaotic.

“I was not in peace and it got to a point I realised it was dragging me behind and my friends were no longer supporting me,” he said.

Noti Flow allegedly left the singer due to violence.

Around 2016, Mustapha is also said to have divorced his wife.

“I had to divorce with my wife to go to the show. She was mad at me. She was the one who divorced me because of the show. You see the problem is, wewe mwenyewe kwa nyumba yao haukuwi na peace

“Watu wengine wako na peace waki enjoy. It’s time pia kuangalia maisha yako where you want to go. Hakuna haja ya ku sacrifice hiyo yote na watu hawaelewi,” he said.
