Commitee Sitting Allowances for MCAs, MPs and Senators

Members of County Assemblies (MCAs), Members of Parliament (MPs) and Senators in Kenya receive committee sitting allowances in addition to their regular salaries. 

These allowances are paid when they attend committee meetings, with the amount varying based on their position within the committee.

For MCAs, a member is entitled to Ksh 6,500 per sitting up to a maximum of Ksh 104,000 per month if they sit in a committee as a Chairperson.

While the Vice-Chairperson pockets Ksh 5,200 per sitting or a maximum of Ksh 83,200 in a given month, a member will walk away with Ksh 3,900 per sitting.

Members have their maximum limit set at Ksh 62,400 per month.

In the National Assembly, a member who serves as the committees Chairperson Ksh 15,000 per sitting up to a monthly maximum of Ksh 240,000.

The Vice-Chairperson walks away with KSh 12,000 per sitting up to a monthly maximum of KSh 192,000, as stipulated by the Salaries and Renumeration Commission (SRC).

On the other hand, an MP who sits in a committee as a member pockets Ksh 7,500 per sitting up to a monthly maximum of Ksh 120,000.

While not much is known about how much the Vice-Chairperson and members who sit in a Senate committee earn, the Chairperson pockets Ksh 15,000 per sitting up to a maximum of Ksh 240,000.

Elsewhere, SRC announced that state officers were scheduled to get salary and benefit increments starting July 1.

Both the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Senate are set to receive Ksh 1,208,362 from Ksh 1,185,327, Ksh 40 million mortgage, Ksh 25,000 airtime and official residence.

Principal Secretaries are also set to benefit with their salaries set to rise to Ksh 819,844 from the initial Ksh 752,519.

Both the Majority and Minority leaders are set to walk home with Ksh 800,019 from the previous Ksh 784,768.

MPs and Senators will receive a pay rise from the initial Ksh 725,502 to Ksh 739,600.

Governors’ pay has also been adjusted from Ksh 957,000 to Ksh 990,000 with their deputies set to receive Ksh 684,233 from Ksh 652,742 while MCAs are set to receive Ksh 164,588 from Ksh 154,481.
