Dr. Joyce Ochogo “Bensouda”: Biography, Education, Career And Homabay Politics

Dr. Joyce Ochogo Bensuda is the Homabay county woman representative having won the seat on an ODM ticket. She took over from Gladys Wanga, who is now the county Governor. However, unknown to many, Bensouda is not her real name. It is a nickname that she got owing to her personality similarities with former ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda.

Education

Dr. Joyce Ochogo has a PhD in Project Planning and Management, a Masters Degree in Project Planning and Management MA PPM, and a Bachelors Degree in Education (Arts- Geography and History) from the University of Nairobi. She also has a Certificate in Computer applications and SPSS from KCA University.

Popular nickname

While explaining the origin of her nickname, Dr. Ochogo said that she does her work diligently and cherishes effectiveness, same as the renown former ICC prosecutor. She added that she is principled and that is what she wants to go and uphold as she carries out her work as a woman representative.

Fatou Bensuda is known for her sternness at the ICC as a prosecutor, having taken over from Luis Ocampo. Ochogo says she loves the name Bensuda more than even her real name and will do everything to live up to the name justice. That is, walk in the shoes of Fatou Bensouda.

Career

Dr Joyce Ochogo has worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Spatial Planning at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology.

She has also previously served as a CEC in the Kisumu County government after being appointed by Governor Anyang Nyong’o in a County Government reshuffle. She served as the County Executive Committee Member for Roads, Public Works and Transport.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 179(2)(b) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and section 30(d) of the county Government Act, I have today nominated Dr Joyce Atieno Osogo as CECM fOr Roads, Public Works and Transport,” read a statement to newsrooms.
