Hilton Opens New Hotel in Westlands After CBD Exit

Hilton Hotel is set to open a new hotel in the country, just a month after announcing closure of its iconic hotel in the city center.

The hospitality chain announced that it was opening Kwetu Nairobi, Curio Collection by Hilton in February 2023.

The new hotel is located at the Peponi-Kitisuru Road junction.

“We are opening in February 2023, but aren’t accepting reservations yet,” read a banner in the Curio Collection by Hilton website.

The hotel boasts among others a 102 rooms in five interconnected blocks and a rooftop bar overlooking Karura Forest.

As earlier reported, the iconic Hilton Hotel announced the closure of its city center hotel after 53 years of operations.

The hotel said it will cease operations in Kenya and lay off an unspecified number of workers come December this year.

In a statement, Hilton pointed out challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic among other factors that led to the planned closure of the hotel.

“Covid-19 created unprecedented challenges for our industry. However, the decision to cease operations is not directly connected to the pandemic

“Unfortunately, the closure of the hotel will result in a retrenchment process. However, we will work with those impacted to help them find alternative employment,” Hilton said.

Hilton clarified that it will not quit the Kenyan market, noting that it will continue to operate its other brands in the country.

The hotel also said that it will deploy some stuff to its other brands.

“Hilton Nairobi Hurlingham and Hilton Garden Inn Nairobi Airport are growing our portfolio with new hotel development opportunities in the city and beyond,” the hotel said.
