Mulleys Lose Prime Property To Auctioneers, A Year After Supermarkets Closure

A prime property owned by retail chain Mulleys Supermarket has been placed on auction.

According to a notice published on local dailies, Regent Auctioneers will conduct an auction on a prime land situated in Machakos CBD.

The land, LR Block 11/230 is owned by Peter Mulei & Sons, the brainchild of Mulleys’ Business Empire.

According to Regent, the land is identifiable as Evening Shade Hotel or Wajuzi Restaurant.

The land is developed with a commercial building which has a basement floor that has a laundry room and storage unit.

The ground floor of the building had a front-facing restaurant, entry to the rooms and a reception with a service desk.

The rest of the building has 13 single rooms and five double rooms.

The public auction took place on Thursday, January 26 at the company’s auction mart located at New Kereita Building, Kirinyaga Road.

This auction followed another last year that befell the family known for wholesale, land and hotel businesses.

In November 2021, Mulleys Supermarket announced the closure of five of its 10 branches, in a downsizing plan.

The supermarket closed two of its main branches in Machakos town, Mulleys Kitui branch, Mulleys Highway in Mlolongo market and Mulleys Tala branch.

In a notice, the supermarket management said their business was undergoing a necessary restructuring and reorganisation process.

“We highly regret all the inconveniences caused by this occurrence but do kindly request you bear with us. We shall keep you updated on new developments along the way,” read the notice.
