Pastor Ezekiel Odero has become something of a sensation since filling the 60,000 Kasarani International Sports Complex to the brim. The man of God had a humble start in life. In a separate article, WoK detailed his journey from from Rusinga Island in Suba to becoming one of the most talked about evangelists in Kenya eclipsing Prophet David Owour

Talking to the Daily Nation, he recalled his mother urging him to go fishing which took a toll in his studies.

Slow Learner

“My mother used to urge me to go fishing. I could not concentrate in class because most of the fishing took place at night. My mathematics teacher kept punishing me, saying I was a slow learner and that my head was full of mucus instead of brains”, he told the daily.

This did not stop him from emerging the top candidate in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) with 210 marks out of a possible 700.

He was in Ngodhe Island Primary School before joining Yeye Primary School in class seven.

The pastor was admitted to Miwani High School in Chemelil where he was known for being a staunch Seventh Day Adventist. He scored a mean grade of C. He moved to Mombasa and joined Maximum Miracle Centre Church where he served in different capacities.

Busy schedule

The pastor’s schedule is always tight. Talking to DN, he said he has no resting days. The only day he is not leading worship is on Monday when he meets the clergy to discuss church affairs. He said of his busy schedule:

“I am at the office by 8am on Tuesday. I go to church at 9.30am and leave at 7pm. It is preaching all that time. I preach while standing. I don’t take water or tea,” he says.

“I have never had breakfast or lunch in my life. If you see me eating, it means I was fasting. I am a very busy person.”

New Life Church

The church sits on a 65 acre parcel of land. The megacity will have a helipad, an international school, shops, cottages and a restaurant once completed. It will also have a supermarket, a hospital, a rehabilitation centre and a university.

The church has a capacity of 45,000 people.
