In the recent years, radio comedy is slowly becoming a staple in the local media industry.
From the early days of radio broadcasts to the modern era of digital streaming, radio comedians have continued to bring laughter and joy to listener.
In this article, WoK highlights top ten radio comedians in Kenya who have made a significant impact on the industry with their unique talents, wit, and humor.
1. Mulamwah
Also known as David Oyando, Mulamwah is a nurse by profession, digital content creator, stand-up comedian and a radio presenter.
In May 2022, the comedian landed a job at Mediamax’s Milele FM as a co-host for an afternoon show.
“God is great, finally on the radio – Milele FM. It has always been my dream to one day be on radio, thanks to all konki fans who always believed in me and supported me in my craft from scratch
“To everyone else out there, always do you. It doesn’t matter what people say or think about your art, just focus and give your best and let God work on the rest. Hoping for the best & longevity in this new career,” Mulamwah said.
2. Vinnie Baite
Vinnie Baite, a Literature graduate from the Maseno University is comedian, content creator and radio presenter.
In May 2022, the comic also landed a new radio job with Mediamax owned radio station, Milele FM.
In an update on his social media platforms, he announced that he would be hosting the show alongside legendary radio personality Francis Luchivya.
“I honestly didn’t see it coming, it’s like God’s miracles. I am very happy about it. This is a new chapter that I have always wanted to open. I take it as a challenge to push myself even further,” he wrote.
3. MCA Tricky
MCA Tricky, a mechatronic engineer by profession, is a stand up comedian, digital content creator and radio presenter.
He currently hosts a morning show on Milel FM alongside Chris Da Bass.
MCA Tricky started his radio career at Standard Media Group-owned radio station, Radio Maisha where he worked until July 2020.
He quit Radio Maisha to replace Jalang’o at Milele FM
4. Oga Obinna
Real name Steve Thompson Maghana, Oga Obinna is a musician, radio presenter, comedian and content creator.
He currently co-hosts The Morning Kiss, alongside Kwambox on Kiss FM.
He joined the radio station officially in March 2022 to replace Jalang’o who resigned to contest for the Lang’ata Parliamentary seat.
“I have always wanted to do a breakfast show on radio, and for it to happen on Kiss FM, it’s a wrap. Mama, we made it. Even if I only do it for a month, my resume is changing immediately after I get on air,” he sald.
5. Natalie Githinji
Natalie Githinji describes herself as a radio presenter, commercial model, actress and content creator.
She kicked off her career at NRG Radio where she has worked for over three years.
Other than her radio job, Natalie is also the founder of Yellow Bold Girl; an organization creating awareness for endometriosis.
6. Rapcha The Sayantist
Francis Kibe or Rapcha The Sayantist is a radio presenter at Hot 96, a TV personality, comedian and podcaster appearing on Iko Nini podcast.
He is known for Raiyaa, a talk show he hosted alongside Mwafreeka, and aired on NTV.
Rapcha The Sayantist kicked off his career at Ghetto Radio.
7. Daniel ‘Churchill’ Ndambuki
Daniel Ndambuki, popularly known by his stage name Churchill, is a Kenyan comedian, radio host, and TV personality.
He is best known for his work as the host of the popular Churchill Show on NTV, which features stand-up comedy performances by local comedians.
He currently co-presents with Maina Kageni on Classic 105.
8. 3 Men Army
3 Men Army is made up of three young namely Andrew Trevor, Dante the Wise One and Frank.
They started out as dancers doing volunteer stage performances organized by non-profit organizations and different churches.
They started building relationships with local celebrities , a move that would later lead them into comedy.
In 2019, the group did an audition at the NRG MVPs, a platform created to provide an opportunity for the youth to showcase their talent.
The 3 Men Army performed their art and were among the MVPs who were selected to work for the radio station.
9. King Kalala
King Kalala is a radio presenter and the founder of King Kalala Klan, a women empowerment movement that seeks to liberate young ladies from misogynistic societal bondages.
Also known as Prudence Chepkirui Tonui, she hosts NRG Circle and NRG Plug at NRG Radio.
Kalala secured a job as a radio host at NRG Radio after becoming a social media sensation for a while.
She stated that her dream radio job could be in either of the three media stations; Kiss FM, NRG Radio or Vybez Radio.
Amina promised to do whatever she could to get her a radio job in any of her favorite popular radio stations.
10. Abdi Munai
Munai General works at Citizen Radio where he hosts an evening show.
He has worked at radio citizen for several years, and many people are fond of him thanks to his jokes that leave listeners entertained by his jokes.
He kicked off his radio career at KBC before moving to Radio Citizen.
