Over the past year, a section of individuals working with the Nairobi City County have been put on the spot over ownership of multimillion properties.
Most of these individuals have been flagged by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on grounds of corruption and abuse of office claims.
Here are properties owned by current and former Nairobi County Staff.
Wilson Kanani
Wilson Kanani owns the popular 1824 Whiskey Bar & Lounge along Lang’ata road through Seventeen Forty Nine Limited.
He owns 1,000 shares in Seventeen Forty Nine Ltd, similar shares with his co-owners in the business-Biko Ochieng Gwendo and George Avugwi Lutta.
According to from records from the Business Registration Service, the company was incorporated on August 25, 2014.
EACC records showed that Kanani is worth Ksh 100 million in bank balances, homes, cars and prime balances.
He owns a house in Phenom Estate, Lang’ata, a residential house and rental property in Busia, an apartment in Lang’ata and an apartment in Kahawa.
Kanani drives a Mercedes Benz.
He worked for Nairobi County government and earned Ksh 55,866 per month. His job description entails following up on advertising companies to ensure their billboards and other signage do not violate national and county laws.
Allan Igambi
Allan Igambi co-owns 40Forty Lounge in Westlands, Nairobi alongside his wife, Irene.
The two had been in the hotel business and decided to aet up the lounge and named it 40Forty, inspired by US Rapper Jay Z’s 40/40 club in New York.
Igambi is the former Controller of Budget and Nairobi County Executive Member for Finance.
He was fired by former Governor Ann Kananu after being transferred from the Finance to the Food and Agriculture docket as acting CEC.
In 2020, Igambi was put on the spot to explain claims that more than Ksh 280 million was lost through payments of irregular pending bills.
He also owns a house estimated to be Ksh 260 million.
Michael Ajwang’
Michael Ajwang’ Auka owns Hydeout Riviera, a three star hotel located along the Kisumu Bondo road at Reru Junction.
Auka is a junior procurement officer at the Nairobi City County earning a salary of Ksh 21,000, according to the Standard.
Notably, EACC has accused the businessman of corruption, arguing that they suspect that his assets are proceeds of corruption.
EACC suspects that Auka might have benefited from Ksh 40 million bribes from entities awarded tenders by the Nairobi county.
He also owns parcels of land in Siaya, Kisumu na Utawala, 11 cars and 3 motorcycles.
