Born on 23rd December 1992 in Dar es Salam, Tanzania, Mbwana Samatta is a son of a retired policeman Ally Samatta who has always believed in himself that he can do it no matter how hard the situation can be.

Samatta started his football career at an early age of 16 years old at African Lyon FC. He was later signed at his local club Simba SC where he began his professional football career. Samatta’s outstanding performance at Simba SC, drew attention from the biggest clubs in Africa. At the age of 19, with only playing one season at Simba SC, where he scored 13 goals in 25 appearances, TP Mazembe FC saw great talent in Samatta and snatched him at € 70,000 in 2011.

While in Congo playing for TP Mazembe FC, he emerged as the top scorer in the 2015 CAF Champions League, scoring seven goals in the process. 

He has played in several teams, including Simba SC, African Lyon, TP Mazembe, KRC Genk, and now Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old Tanzanian footballer has been transferred to Aston Villa from his previous club KRC Genk. Mbwana Samatta will be the first Tanzanian in the Premier League history to play in the English top tier. He has completed the €10 million signing four-and-a-half-year deal.

Salaries

At KRC Genk Mbwana Samatta was earning a gross income of €35,000 a month. His move to Aston Villa will see his salary increase instantaneously. As a striker at Aston Villa, he is expected to pocket around €20,000 -€30,000 a week.  

Mbwana’s Wife

Mbwana Samatta is married to Naima Omary. They have no kids yet. The couple wedded October 2019 in a private ceremony in Dar es Salaam.

Accolades

Samatta won the best player in the African Leagues in CAF Champions League in 2016.  He is the first East African player to win the award.
