Politics, as they say, is a dirty if not a complicated game. In the just concluded general elections, candidates running for various elective positions were announced victors while a big majority were left nursing their wounds.
From MCAs, to MPs, to governors-the elections attracted many contenders, some of whom are familiar to Kenyans, albeit not in politics.
A section of Kenyan celebrities tried their luck and like in any competition, some emerged winners, and others losers.

Kevin Kioko alias Bahati
Bahati’s journey to the election list for the Mathare MP seat was not an easy one, taking into account his nomination battle and apparent massive competition from the incumbent MP Anthony Oluoch. Bahati who was vying on a Jubilee ticket lost the seat to ODM’s Oluoch.
Gabriel Kagundu (Gabu of P-Unit)
Gabu, one of the members of the P-Unit music group was seeking the MCA position in the Woodley, Kenyatta Golf Course Ward. He conceded defeat after fellow entertainer Davidson Ngibuini, aka DNG, clinched the seat on a UDA ticket.
Mwanaisha Chidzuga
Former primetime TV news anchor, Mwanaisha Chidzuga, lost the Matuga Constituency parliamentary race. She was up against a host of contestants including her older brother, Hassan Chidzuga.
This was her first attempt at elective politics, as she attempted to walk in the footsteps of her late mother, Zainab Chidzuga, who served as Kwale Woman Representative between 2017-2017.
Mary Njambi Koikai aka Fyah Mummah
Popular Reggae music MCee Njambi Koikai had her eyes on the Dagoretti South parliamentary seat, vying as an independent candidate. She however conceded defeat, congratulating her opponents even before IEBC officially announced the results.
Anita Sonia
Sonia, who is a notable Kenyan Environmental activist also lost her bid to become Kajiado North MP. She conceded defeat and congratulated her main opponent, Onesmus Ngogoyo for clinching the seat.
Jasper Muthomi (MC Jessy)
Popular comedian turned politician MC Jessy lost his bid for the South Imenti parliamentary seat and conceded defeat. He thanked his supporters for the votes he garnered, and noted that he would make another attempt in the future.
Charles Njagua (Jaguar)
Outgoing Starehe MP Charles Njagua lost his bid to retain his seat during the UDA party nominations to Simon Mbugua. However, after a hotly contested battle that saw chaos erupt in the Starehe constituency tallying centre, the UDA candidate was trounced by Jubilee’s Amos Mwago.
